Hydroxypropyl starch ether (HPS) is a white fine powder derived from natural plants.
HPS is a chemically modified starch, which is etherified by propylene oxide and starch to replace the hydroxyl group in the starch macromolecule structure to become an etherified starch.
Physical Properties
White (colorless) powder with good fluidity and good water solubility.
Its aqueous solution is transparent and colorless with good stability.
HPS is stable to acid and alkali, the sintering temperature is lower than that of native starch, and the change of hot and cold viscosity is more stable than that of native starch. Mixing with salt and sucrose has no effect on viscosity. After etherification, both ice-melt stability and transparency were improved.
Chemical Properties
Due to the properties of starch derivatives with hydroxypropyl substituents, the glucose unit constituting starch has 3 hydroxypropyl groups that can be replaced, so products with different degrees of substitution can be obtained.

Application
(1) food industry, hps can be used as a thickening agent, can be used as a suspending agent, and hps can be used as an adhesive.

HP is used for internal sizing of paper, used for surface sizing, makes printing ink bright, makes uniform, makes the film smooth, hps reduces ink consumption, and has a certain ability to pull hair.
