Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) in Building Materials
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from a natural polymer material cellulose as a raw material through a series of chemical processes. They are an odorless, tasteless and non-toxic white powder that swells into a clear or slightly cloudy colloidal solution in cold water. It has the characteristics of thickening, adhesion, dispersion, emulsification, film formation, suspension, adsorption, gelation, surface properties, moisture retention and protective colloid. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, methyl cellulose can be used in construction materials, coating industry, synthetic resin, ceramic industry, medicine, food, textile, agriculture, daily chemical industry and other industries.
The main application of HPMC in building materials:
1 Cement-based plaster
⑴ Improve uniformity, make plastering mortar easier to apply, at the same time improve sag resistance, enhance fluidity and pumpability, and improve work efficiency.
⑵ High water retention, prolong the placement time of the mortar, improve work efficiency, and facilitate the hydration and solidification of the mortar to produce high mechanical strength.
⑶ Control the introduction of air to eliminate cracks on the coating surface and form an ideal smooth surface.
2 Gypsum-based plaster and gypsum products
⑴ Improve uniformity, make plastering mortar easier to apply, at the same time improve sag resistance, enhance fluidity and pumpability, and improve work efficiency.
⑵ High water retention, prolong the placement time of the mortar, improve work efficiency, and facilitate the hydration and solidification of the mortar to produce high mechanical strength.
⑶ Control the consistency of the mortar to form an ideal surface coating.
3 Masonry mortar
⑴ Enhance the adhesion with the surface of the masonry, enhance the water retention, and increase the strength of the mortar.
⑵ Improve lubricity and plasticity, improve workability; use cellulose mortar improved mortar, easier to construct, save construction time, reduce construction costs.

4 Sheet caulk joint
⑴ Excellent water retention, extend the opening time and improve work efficiency. High lubricant, easier to mix.

5 Tile adhesive

6 Self-leveling floor materials

7 Water-based paint

8 Wallpaper Pink

9 Extruded cement sheet

⑵ Improve green body strength, promote hydration and solidification effect, and improve yield.
10 HPMC products for ready-mixed mortar
HPMC products for ready-mixed mortars have better water retention than ready-made mortars, ensuring that the inorganic cementitious materials are fully hydrated, significantly preventing the reduction in bond strength caused by excessive drying and cracking caused by drying shrinkage. HPMC also has a certain air-entraining effect. The HPMC product special for ready-mixed mortar has the right amount of air entrainment, uniform and small bubbles, which can improve the strength and smoothness of the ready-mixed mortar.
