How to make HPMC?

There are two types of HPMC preparation in industry: intermittent type and continuous type.

Intermittent type is to make crude products by etherifying cellulose with etherifying agent in autoclave after alkalization, pressing, crushing and ripening.

The continuous type does not need to be pressed, crushed, matured, and alkalized to facilitate the etherification reaction in the high-pressure pipeline reactor and continuous feeding and discharging.

The preparation of HPMC mostly adopts liquid phase method, because the finished product obtained by this method has good uniformity.

Generally, 35%~50% lye is used to prepare alkali cellulose, and the mass ratio of cellulose to lye is 1: (0.5~2.6).
